Active Aging

The Department's Active Aging program serves seniors in both Sarpy and Cass counties with the goal of helping them remain safe and in their homes for as long as possible.  The program focuses on chronic disease prevention, nutrition, and physical activity.  Department nurses offer low-cost foot care and blood pressure screenings, home visitations, and educational presentations.  We work with community partners, reaching most program participants through senior centers, churches and independent senior living communities.

Basic Foot Care and Blood Pressure Clinics are offered at locations throughout Sarpy and Cass counties. Visit the Department's Current Events section to see clinic dates and times.  Registration for the clinics is handled by the site location directly.  These events are available at low cost to participants and may include the following services:

  • Blood pressure screenings.
  • Basic foot care and toenail trimming.
  • Health information on heart disease, stroke and diabetes prevention.
  • Education on health, nutrition and exercise.

Home Visitation Program is offered to those seniors that have difficulty leaving their homes.  Visits may include sharing of health information and community resources, and those services provided at the basic foot care and blood pressure clinics
